Shinfalls Commodities is a fundamental metals strategy launched in mid-2023 by Bruce Mason. The strategy employs a bottom-up approach, with a particular focus on China, a prominent global metals hub. The investment team brings expertise from operating within both a traditional trading house and a hedge fund setting. The company has offices in Singapore and London. Shinfalls is dedicated to building an institutional-grade asset management firm and partners with top-tier service providers that support the business.
Our Approach
Shinfalls seeks to achieve absolute returns driven primarily by investing in global metals markets. Shinfalls follows a multi-strategy approach to investing and monetising market dislocations and structural inefficiencies. With risk management at its core, Shinfalls aims to compound investor capital by producing strong risk-adjusted returns across market cycles while limiting drawdowns during challenging market conditions.

Meet our People
Bruce Mason
Chief Investment Officer
Bruce is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Shinfalls Commodities, which he established in 2023. Prior to Shinfalls, Bruce managed the same metals-focused strategy at RWE from 2018 to 2023. Before this, he spent over four years as a Metals Analyst and Strategist at the hedge fund Edesia Asset Management, a hedge fund spun out of Louis Dreyfus. Bruce commenced his career as a graduate in 2012 at Louis Dreyfus Commodities in Geneva. During this period, he also studied for a commodities-focused master’s degree at the University of Geneva.
Curtis Zhu
Head of Research
Curtis joined Shinfalls in February 2025 as a Senior Metals Analyst in the research team. Before Shinfalls, Curtis worked at SPX International from 2017 to 2024 as a Metals Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Curtis predominantly covered ferrous metals, including iron ore and steel. Prior to that, he worked at Wood Mackenzie from 2011 to 2016 as a Principal Analyst focusing on the iron ore and steel markets. Curtis started his career at Steel Business Briefing, working in consulting and China research-management roles from 2006 to 2011.
Hanbing (Emma) Sun
Senior Metals Analyst
Emma joined Shinfalls in April 2026 as a Senior Metals Analyst. Before Shinfalls, Emma worked at Chaos Investment Company from 2017 to 2026 as a Metals Analyst. Emma predominantly covered non-ferrous metals, including copper, zinc, nickel and lithium. Prior to that, she worked at Shanghai Metals Market from 2013 to 2017 as a Principal Analyst focusing on the zinc and lead markets.
Florent Pelé
Metals Trader & Analyst
Florent joined Shinfalls in May 2025 as a Metals Trader and Analyst in the research team. Prior to Shinfalls, Florent spent eight years at Société Générale in London and Paris, where he served as a Senior Commodity Strategist and contributed to the Global Asset Allocation research team. He led copper and gold forecasts and helped develop Quantitative Investment Strategies in commodities, including systematic carry, curve-basis momentum, trend-following, value and congestion.
Tim Davenport
Chief Operations Officer
Tim joined Shinfalls as COO in April 2024. Tim has over 20 years of experience working within the hedge fund sector, where he has held a number of senior management positions. Most recently, he was a founding partner and COO of Arctis Global, an equity long-short hedge fund which launched in March 2020. Prior to joining Arctis, Tim was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Winton Group Ltd. He joined Winton in July 2017 after 11 years working for Marshall Wace. At Marshall Wace, he served as COO of the Marshall Wace Eaglewood Group and, before that, as Head of Fund Accounting. Earlier in his career, Tim worked for Brevan Howard, Credit Suisse and BDO.
Duncan McCullough
Head of Business Development
Duncan joined Shinfalls in February 2024 as Head of Business Development. Before Shinfalls, Duncan held a similar role at Berry Street, an event-driven hedge fund, where he joined at launch in 2019. Prior to that, he was a Vice President at Paulson & Co, where he spent five years, and, before that, he spent over three years as an Analyst at Arden Asset Management and Fauchier Partners, carrying out hedge fund research.
